Why “Coockino”?

I was born in a bustling night market in Taipei, raised between the smoky woks of my grandmother’s street-food stall and the tiny apartment kitchen above it. My ah-ma never measured anything with spoons; she measured with her eyes, her nose, and the way love feels when it’s about to overflow. She used to say, “Good food doesn’t need to shout. It just needs to make someone close their eyes and smile.” That single sentence became my compass.

From the age of six I was perched on a plastic stool beside her, learning how to crisp chicken skin until it sang, how to balance mango sweetness against lime, how a handful of Thai basil and cherry tomatoes could turn a simple plate into sunshine.
